Golf Man-cation to Vancouver Island
By Andrew Penner, 2009

If you’ve ever seen the gang movie “The Warriors” – it’s a B cult classic! - then there’s a pretty good chance the line “Waaaariorrrrs, come out to play-ay!” still reverberates within you from time to time. I love that movie. And it was perfect post-round cinematic fare for the boys. You see, after four inspiring rounds of golf in two days on Vancouver Island, there wasn’t a whole lot of fight left in us. It was after midnight, the card game was over, and the only thing left to do was throw on a movie, suck back one last pop, and get horizontal. Yes indeed, just like “The Warriors,” we definitely came out…and we definitely played.

Corporate Golf Getaway to Vancouver Island
By Andrew Penner, 2009r
IThe team has been grinding away for months. In spite of the times, business is holding its own. Profits, while not soaring, are hanging in there. For the most part, it’s due to some heroic efforts by the team. They’ve proven themselves. They need a break. Golf is good. But where to go?

Couples Golf on Vancouver Island
By Andrew Penner, 2008

Ok, I’ll admit it, my wife isn’t generally the first person I’d choose to go on a golf vacation with. I mean, God bless her, she gave me three wonderful kids and I love her dearly, but she just can’t keep up on one of these junkets. She goes to bed early. She gets squirmy when the temperature dips below 20 degrees. And she doesn’t understand that, while 9 holes, afternoon spa time, and a glass of wine are nice, all that’s really needed for daily sustenance are 36 holes and beer and nachos.

Golf and Wine on Vancouver Island
By Andrew Penner, 2008

No, it’s not likely the pig-tailed prom queen on the golf course beverage cart is going to be ditching her ice-chilled stock of beer for Australian Syrahs and Oregon Pinot Noirs any time soon. After all, golf and beer go together like cake and ice cream. But, thanks to wine regions like Napa, Niagara - and one you’ve rarely, if ever, heard about, Vancouver Island’s Cowichan Valley – golf and wine are getting paired together more and more often. And, if you’re like me, the palate can definitely make room for the combination.

Vancouver Island’s Top 18 Golf Holes
By Andrew Penner, 2007
What makes a great golf course great? Naturally, given the eclectic tastes that are represented in the golf community, the answers vary. Fine scenery. Outstanding conditioning. Superb service. Exciting design. Rich history. Value pricing. All perfectly fine answers. Naturally, though, one answer should be on top of the list. Great holes. And, if your destination is Vancouver Island, you won’t run short on these.

4 Great Golf Getaways on Vancouver Island
by Andrew Penner, 2006
There’s something about being on an island that makes a holiday that much sweeter. Islands have a way of upping the leisurely power of a trip. But, let’s face it, when a chunk of land is surrounded by water, you’re somewhat stuck. You are, whether you like it or not, staying put. It’s when you just accept this, or, better yet, revel in it, that you can really leave the stress behind and bask in the beauty of really being “somewhere.”

Sweet Dreams on the Vancouver Island Golf Trail
by Andrew Penner, 2005
Those of us with golf in our veins have many things in common. We love the outdoors. We love the camaraderie that the game makes possible. And, perhaps more than anything, we love to dream. We dream about that syrupy-smooth technique that has long evaded us.

VancouverIsland Golf - Land of Undiscovered Gems
by Ian Cruickshank, 2004
Golfers are the Indiana Jones’ of the sports world.
